For the pilot wanting to pursue a professional career in aviation, an instrument rating is a must. With increasing industry standards, the instrument rated pilot is open to many more opportunities in a wide variety of jobs. Many companies in the corporate, offshore and EMS fields require an instrument rating. Learning to fly on instruments is a skill that will not only improve your overall flying ability, but will allow you to be even safer in adverse weather. At Helicopter Services, Inc. your instrument training will be conducted in the R44 RII and the "Fly It" Simulator.
General Requirements: Must be 17 years of age or older. Must read, speak and understand English.
Prerequisites: Must hold at least a Private Helicopter License with 50 hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command. TSA permission to initiate training for International Students.
FAA Minimums: 40 Hours actual or simulated instrument training of which 15 hours must be in a helicopter.
Guidelines & Procedures
  1. Training transpires in the Robinson R44 & "Fly It" Simulator.
  2. Pass a written test given by an FAA designated testing center.
  3. Pass an oral & flight test given by an FAA Designated Pilot examiner.
